Isabelle Turell Drawing

Twitter Reaction
Isabelle is an IFBB Professional Womans Body Builder. Isabelle was one of the first Female Body Builders that I became a fan of. Recently she followed me on Twitter, and I did this drawing for her. She is in the process of getting back into competition shape, and hopes to take the stage this season.

Dwight Clark "The Catch" 2015

Dwight Clark "The Catch" Drawing
On January 10,1982 The San Francisco 49ers played the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Championship Game. With 58 seconds left in the game, the 49ers faced a third and three on the Cowboys six yard line. Joe Montana hit Dwight Clark, covered by Everson Walls in the back of the end zone to tie the game with 51 seconds left. Ray Werschings extra point game the 49ers the 28-27 win.
Wikipedia says. "The Catch is widely regarded as one of  the most memorable events in NFL history. The game represented the end of Dallas's domination in the NFC since its inception in 1970, and the beginning of San Francisco's rise as both NFC and Super Bowl power in the 1980's."

Aleesha Young 2 2015

 Aleesha in Water Drawing
 Strelitzia Preliminary Sketch
Aleeshas Twitter Reaction
Here is my second drawing of Aleesha Young. While I was doing the drawing, I wanted to add a flower to the top left of the drawing. I thought it would be nice compositionally, as well as add to the artistry and contrast of a woman who is as beautiful, but as hard as Aleesha. I asked her what her favorite flower is, fully expecting her to say something like a rose or hibiscus. Instead she said Strelitzia. I couldn't have liked the choice more, and after doing a preliminary sketch of the flower, added it to the final drawing. I think her reaction to it is the only, and best reaction that I could hope for!

Kris Shanahan Drawing
Kris Drawing in progress
This month the show at Kent Island Federation of Art is the Human Form Show. My three entries were, Lisa Cross (posted early Nov.), Larissa Reis (posted in early Jan.) and Kris Shanahan (posted in late December.) Before today, Kris and I had never spoken or met. We had only communicated through Twitter or text messages through our sons. She loved the drawing though, and I invited her family to the reception for the show. Since inviting her to the reception, the show was judged, and the drawing was awarded an honorable mention in the drawing division. Today was the reception, and we finally met. Since starting this blog, I have been to many athlete autograph signings, but I have never been so honored, or enjoyed so much, the time that my family got to spend with Kris and her family! Matt Sullivan "Three Aces" 2014

Three Aces Drawing
Matt is my soon to be Brother in Law. I drew him to be the recipient of gifts from me in this years family Secret Santa. My Sister in Law suggested that I do some kind of drawing portraying the three Holes in One that he has hit in his golf career. She sent me links to the three golf courses and I came up with this. I was really excited about it, and his reaction to it was as good as an artist can expect from the intended audience.

Kenny Goins Jr. 2014

Kenny Goins Jr. Drawing
Kenny Goins with the drawing of Kenny Jr., given to he and his wife as a gift

Kenny Jr. born in Baltimore, played his high school ball at Gilman. Playing both sides of the ball, in 2011 Kenny was named All Metro Defensive Player of the Year by the Baltimore Sun.As a Maryland Terrapin, he played in all 13 games as a red shirt freshman in 2013. This season he is playing Fullback, although he has also played on Special Teams.
I am friends with Kenny Sr.at the Port of Baltimore, and spoke to him the day he was leaving to see Kenny Jr. play at South Florida. In that game, Kenny Jr. blocked a punt in the fourth quarter that was recovered in the end zone for a Terps touchdown. That touchdown made the difference in the 24-17 win.

Jackie Surfing 2014

Jackie Drawing
Living at the beach, I surfed the entire summer, every year from when I was ten through my twenties. Now after many years, and shoulder surgery, I have gotten back into it. My youngest son Jacob does it with me, and much like in my youth, I cant wait to get back to the ocean and feel that "Stoke".
This fall at one of the beaches that we go to, I met and photographed Jackie. I spoke to her about the photograph, and then did this drawing from it.

Steve Lombardozzi Jr. 2014

Steve Lombardozzi Drawing
Being a die hard Baltimore Orioles fan, and having a Father and Sons who are Washington Nationals fans, I have followed the career of Steve. The Nationals picked him in the Major League Baseball Draft in 2008. He was called up to the big league on Sept. 6,2011. At the end of last season, the Nats traded Steve to the Detroit Tigers, who then traded him to the Orioles before the season started. He is currently playing for the Orioles AAA team, the Norfolk Tides. Joshua saw him play in Norfolk this summer while on the Potter Tour.

Mariano Rivera The Cutter 2014

 Mariano Rivera The Cutter Drawing
The Cutter Drawing in Progress
Retired Closing Pitcher from the New York Yankees. Mariano is considered by most at the greatest closer the game has ever seen. On his glove, where most pitchers names are, was embroidered Philippians 4:13. Last Year Lisa Miller wrote in New York Magazine:
As anyone who follows baseball knows, Mariano Rivera has built his career on one pitch. A cut fastball, or "cutter," it travels at 90 or 92 miles an hour, and then, a few feet before it reaches home plate, it moves half a foot off course, a trick of physics that looks like telekenisis. Rivera's cutter is virtually unhittable, by consensus and by the wasteland of broken bats that litter home plate when he is on the mound is all the proof anyone needs. A Rivera inning has thus been compared to a horror movie: The excitement is sharpened, not dulled, by the fact that everyone- the players, the ticket holders, and Rivera himself- knows exactly what's coming.

Joshua Bardsley 2014

Joshua Drawing
Joshua catching in PNC Park, Pittsburgh
Knowing what a baseball nut I am, people frequently ask me who my all time favorite player is. My answer for the last seven years has been my son Joshua. Joshua just completed his second season on the Kent Island High School Baseball Team. He also just went on the first ten days of the Potter Baseball Tour again. Last season he went on the entire 25 day Potter Tour, and played in the minor league stadiums for the Bowie Baysox, Frederick Keys, and the York Revolution. He also got to play in PNC Park, home of the MLB Pittsburgh Pirates. He has been splitting time between catching, and playing the outfield.

Coach Dave and I talking baseball
Dave Trembley is the current bench coach for the Houston Astros. He served as the Manager of the Baltimore Orioles from 2007 until 2010. About a month ago, I received an email from Coach Dave. He had seen the drawing that I did of him in 2009, and was inquiring about getting it for his family as a keepsake of his time in Baltimore. I never thought the original drawing was a very strong piece and began working on a new image for Coach Dave while we planned a meeting.
Last night my family met Coach Dave at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. He had arranged for field passes for my pop, two sons and I. We joined him on the field for the Astros batting practice. I presented him with the new drawing that he had not seen yet, and he presented Jacob and Joshua with signed bats. He also tossed each of them a ball while he was hitting ground balls during infield practice.
We discussed baseball like old friends, and I told him about coaching my boys in youth baseball. He spoke to my Pop and I about his twenty plus years in professional baseball, and basing his entire career on just treating people well. He closed our conversation by saying that we are friends now, and please email him from time to time. I am looking forward to seeing Coach Dave later this summer when the Astros play an inter league series against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington D.C.
